-Abstract
Globalisation is affecting information search on the internet to a large extent, and its influence manifests itself in an increased degree in a sharp competition between search engines. Search effectiveness and its development are key issues in this competition, and also in the competition of users, as well as in the competitiveness in search marketing. The article analyses the comprehensive relationships of this complex theme, the impact of globalisation on searching, on internet-based information search, on its strategies, opportunities and models. It deals with the increasingly visual character of the internet (accessibility of images, videos etc.), and with the growing intensity of efforts to explore the invisible/deep web. The article discusses in detail the rich and complex network of related concepts. It presents the concept- and terminology-related issues of internet search engines; it highlights the relationships between concepts and synonyms. Further, it reviews related research areas, mentioning the invisible/deep web, data mining, and text mining etc., among others.
