The past in action. Historical courses, activities and co-operation with organizations in LIS education at ELTE

Abstract

Higher education for librarianship in Hungary has always regarded historical subjects and programmes a priority, although individual LIS schools differ in what they find important in education or research. Specialization in the history of books and libraries was included in the training portfolio of the Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Arts, Institute of Library and Information Science during the introduction of two-cycle education according to the Bologna process in 2006. Although this training had to be suspended for some years, it could restart from September 2015 again as a specialization.
