Comparison of two abstracts journals covering similar subject areas with respect to overlap

Abstract

Based on a half-year period in 1980 the author reveals the overlap of two Hungarian abstracts journals on hydrology and waterworks: Műszaki Lapszemle, Mélyépítés—Vízépítés and Vízügyi Figyelő. The number of the periodicals processed by both abstracts journals is 55 (out of 251 and 147, resp.), while that of the common abstracts is 430 (out of 2356 and 2109, resp.). No differences have been observed in the characteristics of the abstracts. Consequently, the two journals should be merged or they must efficiently coordinate their activities.
