Some problems of the development of information transfer in special libraries

Abstract

After introducing the basic types of information transfer in libraries and information centres, the author presents the general model for information transfer in libraries, and summarizes in the light of the new requirements concerning information services the deficiencies of the present transfer mechanisms. Supported by data of a survey she demonstrates the significance of relevance, noise and analogy-based idea-transfer from the user's viewpoint, and proposes the extension of the model in order to adapt it to the new requirements. Finally, the author advocates an organizational solution which, based on a matrix-type of organization, will provide facilities for the performance of the traditional duties of librarians and information specialists, and, in addition, enable them to cooperate closely with user groups and organizations.
