Assessment of the propaganda campaign of SDI services based on INSPEC magnetic tapes

A major campaign, started in 1978 to promote publicity of the computerized SDI services of OMKDK (Hungarian Central Technical Library and Documentation Centre), is described. Its objectives were: the introduction of OMKDK's SDI services called TIGIT to more users in Hungary, and the investigation of the types of users and the characteristics of their queries. The main feature of the campaign was a cost free offer for a three-month trial period. After a brief review of the TIGIT system, a description of the management of the campaign is gjven, together with a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of its results, concerning the utilization of the INSPEC data base. Data are presented on the number of users of the trial period and on the distribution of basic research, applied sciences and technological development type queries.
