New public library initiatives in the Knowledge Centre, Pécs

Abstract

The objectives of the Csorba Győző County and City Libraryas part of the Knowledge Centre and Library of the Southern Transdanubian Region had to bereformulated for two reasons; on the one hand because of the merger of the county and thecity libraries, and because of the new possibilities offered by the new library building forproviding services to meet the growing needs – in co-operation with the university library –for information, leisure time activities and the internet. Thanks to the modern environment thenumber of cultural, community and library events has grown considerably in the last monthsof 2010, to which the local civil society also contributed. The new library-professional andcultural situation has brought new tasks. The article presents two areas, the children’s libraryand the mobile library project in detail.
