New developments concerning conference proceedings

Abstract

Although conference proceedings have been re-garded as contemporary types of documents over the past 30 years, they are not new. They cannot be specialized on the basis of formai characteristics: their name refers to a kind of information content. But the increase of their quantity and agnificance in the publication practice is a new phenomenon characterizing the post World War II period. In Hungary, there are two major institutes organizing and publishing proceedings of conferences: The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and the Hungarian Federation of Technical and Scientific Unions (MTESZ). Pointingout the difficulties of identifying and locating conference proceedings, the author calls for their national bibliographic control and their involvement in the coopreration-based acquisition.
