Terminological problems related with the term "serial"

Abstract

Significant progress has been achieved during the last period in the field of clarification and standardization of document typology. In the last years periodical and other continuous publications attained increased importance. After clarifying some basic principles of document typology and defining the concept ,"serial", the author concludes that the Hungarian term for continuous publications is lacking, especially there is no suitable Hungarian equivalent of the term "serial". The pros and cons of terms recommended so far are evaluated and an altemative solution is proposed with an tnvitation to offer comments for standardization.
