Europeana Libraries – a new European project

The European Digital Library, having started in 2008, hasbeen accompanied and supported by a number of projects. These ensure the development ofEuropeana from the point of both content and technology, as well as allow wide access toEuropean cultural heritage. In January 2011 a new European project was launched which notonly provides new content for the portal, but also includes some enhancements which assistits future growth. The main objectives of the project: to bring to Europeana a large quantity ofhigh-quality digital records originating from the major research and academic libraries of 11European countries; to create a mechanism which enables mass indexing and aggregation ofdigital content for all European libraries in the future; to establish a European library-domainaggregator service by transforming and further developing TEL; to enhance full-textsearching capabilities and features for users. The project will make a total of 5,168,453 newdigital objects accessible in Europeana. Hungary will be represented by the Library of theHungarian Parliament in this new European project as content provider.
