User education and selective dissemination of information at the Technical University Libraries in the German Democratic Republic

Abstract

The educational aspects of the selective dissemination of information are evaluated, based on the experience of the Technical University Libraries in the GDR. The following methods may increase the publicity and broaden the use of selective dissemination of information: personal contacts of users and those providing SDI services; user education by special courses; publication of general educational and informative materials; use of audiovisual devices and techniques; initiating users to participate in providing information on and facilitating dissemination of services.
