Problems of economics, technology and co-operation of abstracting and indexing services and data bases in the United Kingdom

Abstract

The artiele presents a review of the papers presented at the conference which was organized by ASLIB in September, 1976 with the assistance of the British Library and the Department of Industry. It deals with abstracting and indexing services and data bases in the United Kingdom, explains the problems caused by the difficult economic situation in producing and marketing abstracting and indexing services, elucidates questions related to the growth of literature, pointing out its reasons and prospective tendencies, emphasizes the development of information technology and its consequences; outlines the possibilities of further development of abstracting and indexing services and last but not least, draws the attention to the requirements of industry concerning abstracting and indexing services and data bases.
