Some problems of the on-line use of computerized databases as reftected in West European periodical literature

-Abstract
Besides printed indexes, abstracts journals and off-line magnetic tape services, on-line data base networks are spreading all over the world making thus possible a relatively complete access to documentary information. On-line technology provides rapid access to information; it has however, also some disadvantages. These short-comings and their elimination are at present in the centre of interest. The elimination of those factors that reduce the advantages of the use of on-line networks requires technological modifications which aim at increasing the users' comfort, e. g. the provision of a wide range of services; the technological unification of the data bases, data banks and networks involved; the handling of machine readable bibliographic data and scientific, technical and economic data in one system.
