The State Scientific and Technical Information System of the USSR

Abstract

The state scientific and technical information system of the USSR (SSTIS), which combines the principles of centralization and decentralization, is described in the following terms: structure, management, information service organization (categories of information users, identification of information needs, main forms of information service) automation of information processes, personnel training, international cooperation in the STI field, and prospects for the development ofthe SSTIS.
