Quick information service on industrial development in Arab States using Hungarian optical coincidence cards

Abstract

The author spent one year as a UNIDO expert in industrial information in the Industrial Development Centre for Arab States, IDCAS, Cairo. During his mission a quick information service on industrial development in Arab States was introduced. The service is published twice a week in Arabic, English and French. Selected items processed for the service are utilized also in ISIPAC (Information System on Industrial Projects in the Arab Countries) of IDCAS. As a second step of the service a retrieval system was introduced using optical coincidence cards provided by the Hungarian Central Technical Library and Documentation Centre. The published entries are indexed according to the UNIDO Thesaurus of industrial development terms, on the average with 3-5 descriptors. The retrieval system will be demonstrated also in training courses.
