The system of the United Nations document and publication symbol

Abstract

After a short summary on the foundation of the United Nations and on its organizational structure the author describes the methods of publication and distribution of UN publications and documents. UN document symbols - consisting of letteis and Arabic numerals - allow the recognition of the issuing organization, the type of the document (e.g. proceedings, communication etc), the way of distribution etc. The author gives practical instructions concerning classification, storage and retrieval of UN documents.
