Technical information in Finland

Abstract

Information units in research institutions play a special role in the Finnish technical information system. Their task is to satisfy information needs not only on local but also on national level.
Within this type of units a significant role is played by the Technical Information Service of the State Technical Research Centre (Valtion Teknillinen Tutkimuskeskus) which provides various information services in many branches. Its most important activity is related to the scientific attaches. Presently these are performing technical-diplomatic tasks in 7 countries establishing contacts and procuring information for the Finnish research and industry.
The Paper and Pulp Research Institute (Oy Keskuslaboratorio) is engaged in a much narrower field which is extremely important for Finland. The Institute provides various information services for the paper and pulp industry and related fields.
