The use of specialized languages
Abstract
Reaearch on specialized languages just started to have importance in Hungary. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences established a Study Committee on Specialized Languages, which - jointly with other organizations - held a national conference on "Language and Professional knowledge" at the University of Heavy Industry in Miskolc at the end of May 1975. The present study is one of the conference papers.
Specialized languages are qualified as an independent category of language-use. Aims and characteristics of specialized language communication are examined. Specialized languages are materialized in written and spoken texts. Therefore formal relations of specialized texts, influencing language expressions, are also to be studied, language relations are terminological, phraseological and stilistical. The author deals mostly with the style of specialized texts.
After touching some problems of grammatical correctness, standardization of national and international specialized languages are dealt with. Finally a recommendation is made to introduce the teaching of Hungarian specialized languages as a compulsory subject at the Hungarian universities.
