Abstract

The Hannover Fair offered a survey on the present state and development trends. Modern devices are automated, small size operating without dark room and easy to handle. However, maintenance and the provision of special materials as well as spare parts poses problems for the users.
The most popular microforms are the 16 and 35 mm roll films, aparture cards. A6 size microfiches and microfilm jackets. The big producers eshibited complete sets of equipment out conventional microfilm laboratories of small and medium capacity, as well as cheap microfilm cameras, developing and copying devices suitable for libraries and information centres were rather lacking. Satisfactory assortment was presented in readers and reader-printers.
The production and availability of equipment and devices for rapid searching of microforms for the selection of the items wanted was a new feature. These represent an intermediary solution between manual handling and very expensive automated selectors.
