Abstract

Parallel with the rapid development of technical sciences in the last decades the guantity of scientific literature and other related information has also rapidly increased. In small places it is already impossible the storage of these items with conventional methods so to ensure their quick and constant availability. The most up-to-date electronic devices may solve these problems but not for all types of information. The storage of books with fine-structured illustrations, written documents, maps, signatures etc. meets many difficulties in such memories. Scientists are investigating therefore new ways of solution. Microphotography could be succesfully adopted for the storage of such items of information but its disadvantages - e.g. sensibillty for scratching, soiling, etc. - make this possibility inconvenient. This is why nowadays the holographie information storage has come into prominence combined with electronic control. Advantages: very large storage capacity, small place requirement, availability of information items in seconds, insensibillty for damages. Projects and experimental devices are deseribed together with essential characteristics and practical production of holography. Advantages and disadvantages in comparison with other methods are analyzed. Principles of storage are reviewed and examples for practical application are given.
