Information system of public administration in the Hungarian foreign trade

Abstract

The Hungarian economic management system with indirect State influence, introduced in 1968, demands an efficient information system.
Structure of the foreign trade information subsystem is presented. The data bank, farming the base of thie subsystem is described in details.
The core of the data bank on foreign trade information is a SIEMENS 4004/45 computer. Its programme systea was developed with the help of the philosophy of SIEMENS GOLEM programme package adopted to domestic conditions.
Experts are selecting and processing reports from foreign trade representations; documents of international economic organizations; information, data and regulations of commercial character; as well as orders and decrees. Items considered important are expressed with entry data, descriptors and teit containing informative abstracts. The totality of entries stored in the computer constitutes the information base. The machine system is suitable for selective dissemination of information, information retrieval as well as for constant development of the thesaurus stored in the computer. This system makes possible co-ordination between data banks of various organs of public administration, and joint research projects with the UN computer centre in Bratislava on the development of a homogenous numerical information system for foreign trade.
