What is the truth about machine translation?

Abstract

In comparison with the conclusions of L. Tarnóczi concerning the totally hopeless perspectives of machine translation (MT), practical results of research in the field of MT and perspectives of further projects are presented. The autor explains the importance of modelling in recognition of complex processes, with special regard to the decelepoment of computational linguistics. The importance of mechanized text analysis for documentation is emphasized. Economic problems are discussed in details, determining the role and importance of current operating (substantially syntactical) system of MT and of long-range development plans.
