Abstract

The CNDST, established in 1964, is mainly an autonomous institution, although it has close connections with the I. Albert Royal library. Its activity – literature searches and other documentation services – is carried out by a staff consisting of engineers, agronomists, chemists, physicists, mathematicians, doctors and electronic engineers with university degree. In addition to this the CNDST is performing also some special tasks.
E.g. the CNDST compiles the following periodical publications:
1. Catalogue collectif belge et luxembourgeois periodiques étrangers en cours de publication;
(Union catalogue of current periodical publications)
2. Calendrier des congrés nationaux et internationaux;
(Calendar of national and international congresses)
3. Inventaire permanent des publications scientifique belges;
(Complete list of Belgian scientific publications)
4. Inventaire des centres belges de recherche disposant d'une bibllothé'ques ou d'un service de documentation;
(List of Belgian research institutes with librariee or documentation services)
A translation centre is also operating within the CNDST; organizes conferences for the propagation of information work; establishes contacts between research workers and information sources; studies the needs of information users; finally investigates the problems of mechanization of information processes.
