The FID/II Committee

Abstract

The FID/II (Information for Industry) Committe was constituted more than ten years ago. Its establishment and activity is based on the recognition that economic development is basically promoted by the devolopment of industry which - on the other hand - depends considerably on the extent of access industry has to already existing knowledge and on the utilization of scientific information.
The Committee deals with problems concerning information - dissemination in industry, technical information in its interpretation covers also commercial, economic, social and managerial information. It investigates organizations with information services for industry, their activities and services, the information needs of industry as well as the potential information sources of industry. Its projects include the analysis of the most appropriate methods applicable in industrial information.
Two series are sponsored and published by the Committee:
• National Technical Information Services - Worldwide Directory. Describes 148 organizations of national character in 131 countries.
• Technical Journals for Industry. Each publication in this series lists the scientific and technical journals of a certain country with their most significant data, subject fields, etc. Hungary is also among the countries already procassed.
The FID/II has members from 18 countries (including Hungary) and from UNIDO. Its Chairman: Kjeld KLINTOE, Director of the Dansk Teknisk Oplysningatjeneste (Danish Technical Information Service).
