IT developments in a library environment

Abstract

If libraries want to keep pace with constantly changing user needs, it is imperative that they continuously develop their services, which, due to our networked way of life, involves in most cases IT development as well. We often look at these as costly investments, but there are many examples for increasing user satisfaction in libraries with little costs. The article presents improvements from the past few years, which aimed at library visitors, who visit libraries either personally or online, and mentions some forward-looking developments to be met between the existing or virtual walls of future libraries.
