Abstract

Based on the critical review of SARACEVIC, and expounding its contents, the article provides a survey of main problems referring to relevance: the emergence, role and significance of the notion of relevance in scientific communication and information science; the definition of relevance from different points of view, the systematization and evaluation of theoretical and practical investigations into relevance; the correlation of various systems of relevances and of their conjugate effects; the significance of past and future experiments related to the theory of relevance.
